Sector Based Work Academy – Adult Social care

City & Guilds Level 1 award in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care

This is a 10 day course running 29th June to 10th July. 


Course Objectives and Subjects Covered

  • An introduction to different adult care services
  • Preparing to work with vulnerable adults.
  • Understanding the values and principles of adult social care
  • Awareness of the skills and attitudes required for adult social care
  • The importance of communication in the adult social care sector
  • The roles and responsibilities of the adult social care worker

This award is a strong stepping stone towards qualifications required within this sector and will allow you to move into an entry level role in the adult social care world!

*Job interviews will be held at the relevant Athena Care Home sites in Peterborough, March and Ipswich, on completion of the award

The How

All our courses take place over 2 weeks and we deliver the qualification via Zoom  – 2 hours per day group sessions, individual specified learning and one to one support each afternoon.  


As you are aware the eligibility criteria for the courses are as follows:

  • 19+
  • Unemployed and currently on benefits
  • Not completed a previous same level qualification

Plus the new criteria of having access to a laptop/tablet with internet and a good grasp of English both reading and writing.
